Our Approach
AVEO is committed to developing high value, novel cancer therapeutics which address major unmet medical needs in the field of oncology. Through a combination of internal drug discovery and selective in-licensing of targeted therapeutics, AVEO is building a diversified product pipeline and moving toward its vision of becoming a fully integrated biopharmaceutical company.
Drug Discovery Engine
Making use of state-of-the-art technologies, as well as unique proprietary research tools derived from AVEO’s core technology platform, AVEO is focused on identifying functional antibodies against high-priority targets. AVEO has built the infrastructure to allow it to systematically identify inhibitors of the most promising targets identified and validated in AVEO’s genetic screens. Upon the successful identification of such antibodies, AVEO anticipates having the capacity to generate a steady stream of clinical antibody candidates against proprietary targets crucial to the maintenance of human tumors. The first product of AVEO's drug discovery engine is AV-299, a monoclonal antibody targeting Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF). Nomination of a clinical candidate occurred in 2006, with an IND to follow near the beginning of 2008.
On April 4th, 2007, AVEO announced that it had entered an exclusive worldwide license and development agreement with Schering-Plough for AV-299. AVEO will have primary responsibility for clinical development of AV-299 through proof-of-concept in man and will apply its HRPTM platform during a multi-year translational research program designed to discover biomarker profiles of patients most likely to benefit from treatment with AV-299.
Partnered Products
After successfully in-licensing AV-951 and AV-412, AVEO continues to seek partners who share AVEO’s vision of co-developing, in-licensing or acquiring investigational cancer compounds for which the application of AVEO’s technology and expertise in cancer biology and genetics can provide unique insight and a competitive edge in development.
